Terms of Service
These terms apply when you place an order with Omairi Kyoto. Please read them before you order. By placing an order, you agree to them.
1. What this service is
Omairi Kyoto is a small cultural service based in Kyoto, Japan. We choose postcards for the season, write them by hand in English, and post them internationally. We also carry out, on request, a shrine visit on your behalf and document it for you in a written report.
Omairi Kyoto is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated in partnership with Fushimi Inari Taisha.
2. Orders and payment
Prices are in US dollars and include international postage: a single postcard is 15 USD, and an annual subscription is99 USD per year. A single postcard costs the same whether you send it to yourself or to someone else. Shrine visits are49 USD for Inori and 99 USD for Negai. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never receive or store your card details.
You must be at least 18 years old, or have the consent of a parent or legal guardian, to place an order.
3. What you receive
- Single postcard — one postcard of Kyoto chosen by us, with a short message written by hand in English, posted by air mail within 3 business days of your order. If you tell us at checkout that it is a gift, it is addressed to the recipient you name and your message is copied out by hand in your name.
- Annual subscription — one postcard per month for twelve months, each chosen for the season and carrying a short handwritten message. Cards are written and posted in the same week each month; the first is sent in the next posting week after you subscribe.
- Inori — one shrine visit made on your behalf, a small offering (osaisen) made in your name, and a written report of the visit delivered by email, containing five or more photographs taken on the day.
- Negai — everything included in Inori, plus an ema (wooden votive tablet) dedicated with your wish, a longer and more personal report, and a handwritten postcard sent to you from Kyoto.
The card sent in a given month is chosen by us, and specific cards or images cannot be requested or promised. Cards are hand-written, so no two are identical.
4. Addresses and delivery
You give us the mailing address at checkout, and it is your responsibility to make sure it is correct and complete. Post from Japan typically takes 7–14 days to arrive, but transit times vary by country and season and are outside our control. Delivery timeframes on this site are targets, not fixed commitments. If a card is returned to us as undeliverable, we will contact you and send it again once you give us a corrected address.
5. Subscriptions
A subscription renews automatically once a year, and is charged to the card you used at checkout until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time, yourself, in the Stripe customer portal, or by writing to us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for: you still receive the cards for that period, and you are not charged again. Part-periods are not refunded.
We may change subscription prices. If we do, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and you can cancel before then.
6. Gift orders
When you order a gift, you give us the recipient's mailing address and a short message. By doing so you confirm that you are entitled to share that address with us for this purpose. We use it only to post the card. Your message is copied out by hand as written, in your name. We may decline to write a message that is unlawful, or that harasses or threatens the recipient.
7. Your wish and your privacy
For shrine visits, the content of your wish is treated as private information. We do not publish it, share it, or quote it in reports, postcards, marketing, or anywhere else. It is used only so that we can offer it at the shrine on your behalf, and — with Negai — write it on the ema. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information.
8. Outcomes
What you are buying is the card, or the visit and the record of it. We make no promise, claim, or assurance of any kind about what may follow from a wish being offered, and nothing on this site should be read as one. This is a cultural service, not a religious, medical, financial, legal, or psychological one, and it is not a substitute for professional advice of any kind.
9. Acceptable use
We may decline or cancel an order, and refund it in full, if a message or a wish is unlawful, threatens or harasses another person, or asks for something we are not willing to write or to carry to the shrine. We may also decline orders we cannot fulfil for practical reasons.
10. Copyright
We retain copyright in the reports, photographs, and handwritten messages we produce. Copyright in the pictures printed on the cards stays with its owners. You may keep, print, and share what you receive for your own personal, non-commercial use, including sharing it with someone you bought a gift for. Commercial use of our reports, photographs, or messages requires our written permission.
11. Liability
We provide this service with reasonable care and skill. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability in connection with an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for fraud, or the statutory rights of consumers.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page when you place your order is the version that applies to that order. For subscriptions, the current version applies to each renewal.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute that cannot be resolved between us will be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Kyoto District Court as the court of first instance. This does not remove any protection you have under the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence.
